The Tsunami issue: media duality
U.S. Activity Update on Tsunami Reconstruction
In the two years since the tsunami, much work has been done to rebuild lives and livelihoods and U.S. government assistance has totaled more than $840 million in this effort. In addition, U.S. charitable donations have exceeded $1.8 billion, according to the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University.
Tsunami money 'still not being spent'
Figures compiled by the UN also show that a number of governments which pledged to send aid money have only given a small amount of what they promised or in some cases, nothing at all.
The tsunami, which left thousands of children across south-east Asiaorphaned and saw millions lose there homes, was one of the most destructive in history.
But despite a massive aid effort, about a tenth of the £3.3 billion offered is yet to be delivered while only £1.7 billion has been spent.
