Happy New Year
Chinese New Year parade draws 100,000 in Sydney
ONE hundred thousand people have lined the streets of central Sydney for the Chinese New Year Parade.
Highlights of this year's spectacular Twilight Parade are China's champion dragon dancers and one of its top acrobatic troupes, both from the western city-province of Chongqing.
Starting at Town Hall at 8pm (AEDT) on Sunday, the colourful and noisy procession will prance and dance down George Street and through the heart of Chinatown, ending at Darling Harbour with an eight-minute fireworks display over Cockle Bay about two hours later.
The parade is the centrepiece of Sydney's two-week festival for Chinese New Year, the largest outside Asia.
