Inventor turns cardboard boxes into eco-friendly oven

The ingeniously simple design uses two cardboard boxes, one inside the other, and an acrylic cover that lets in the sun's rays and traps them.

Black paint on the inner box, and silver foil on the outer one, help concentrate the heat. The trapped rays make the inside hot enough to cook casseroles, bake bread and boil water.

Rats refusing to eat GM tomatoes were force-fed; some developed stomach lesions or died within two weeks, yet the tomatoes were approved for market, by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
In 1995 highly respected gene researcher Arpad Pusztai found that lab rats' offspring had weakened immune systems and smaller livers, hearts and brains. He felt it "very unfair to use our fellow citizens as guinea pigs." As has happened to others finding GM dangers, Pusztai was fired and his research confiscated and discredited, although his findings were later published in The Lancet, an international journal of medical science and practice.
