Revellers party hard to welcome 2010

HUNDREDS of thousands of revellers descended on Sydney Harbour, to ring in 2010 as a stunning firework display exploded overhead at midnight.

As families with young children left the city after the early fireworks display at 9pm, partygoers moved in and scenes of adult revelry began across Circular Quay and The Rocks.

The Pentagon Papers, officially titled United States–Vietnam Relations, 1945–1967: A Study Prepared by the Department of Defense, were a top-secret United States Department of Defense history of the United States' political-military involvement in Vietnam from 1945 to 1967.

The study was classified as top secret and was not intended for publication. Contributor Daniel Ellsberg, however, turned over most of the Pentagon Papers to New York Times reporter Neil Sheehan, with Ellsberg's friend Anthony Russo assisting in their copying. The Times began publishing excerpts in a series of articles on June 13, 1971.
Street protests, political controversy and lawsuits followed.

Wide use of U.S. airport body scanners depends on Obama

The Dutch are doing it. So what's taking the U.S. so long to make airport body scanners mandatory?

U.S. President Barack Obama could expedite such a deployment because the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) don't need legislation from Congress to start using the devices at any of the 560 U.S. airports with scheduled airline service.
