Sparks fly 250m into the air as Mount Etna erupts for eight time this year
Etna is the highest active volcano in Europe at 3,295m (10,810ft).
An eruption in May, the fifth of 2011, caused chaos when lava spewed on to its south-eastern slopes and winds swept ash further afield, stopping flights at Catania's airport.
The eruption was also blamed, by bemused Siciilians, for knocking their clocks 15 minutes fast.
