Here in March 2010, the storyline is definitely starting to unfold. The Pope and the Church are now under great pressure again, as they should be. Sexual abuse of children, after all, is among the worst 'sins' of all; and the heinous perpetrators here are beyond ironically those supposedly 'of God'. (Talk about 'angels & demons'!)
The Church, the religious 'Titanic', seems unsinkable, but there are icebergs out there capable of dealing a death blow - like, in this case, institutionally abusing children.
Those in the western world are programmed to bow down to the authority of the Church, but we are also hard-wired to protect our children. It's one of the very basic human instincts that are so fundamental to our nature that it overrides any other secondary habituated behaviors or thinking processes.
And that's the big iceberg the Church struck in recent years. And like the Titanic, it's taking on water, slowly but surely losing its ability to stay afloat.
