EU Dictators May Ram Through Lisbon Treaty Despite Irish Rejection

Today's surprise rejection of the treaty has been met with total arrogance by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown whom, according to reports, called French President Nicolas Sarkozy, "to assure him that British ratification would continue."

Million flee south Chinese floods

China's civil affairs ministry says nearly 1.3 million people have now fled their homes in the hardest hit regions as the bad weather continues.

Tentative accord on spy bill, immunity: sources

Open Europe, a pressure group, said it was worried that EU leaders would respond to the vote by implementing many of the proposals in the treaty using standard EU procedures, bypassing the need for a new treaty.

The worst may be behind for Wall Street - or not

Cedar Rapids flood recedes; Des Moines levee fails

The dark, filthy water that flooded Iowa's second-largest city finally started to recede Saturday after forcing 24,000 people to flee, but those who remained were urged to cut back on showering and flushing to save the last of their unspoiled drinking water.
